Galvanized Water Lines
According to DEP, water supplied through a galvanized service line has the potential to increase your risk of exposure to lead. Lead scale can build up on the interior of the galvanized piping and later release into drinking water even after the original source of lead is replaced. Therefore, water supplied through a Galvanized Requiring Replacement (GRR) service line has the potential to increase your risk of exposure to lead.
The Water Authority conducted an inventory of Service and House lines during the recent meter replacement project. Letters have been sent to customers with Galvanized Service or House lines. If you did not receive a letter, then you do not have galvanized water lines.
